travel Description: Purgatory The popular waterfalls are formed in the fifteen-foot jump the river da Boom to save the pains of Purgatory.

Across the Guadarrama mountain range there are only two such cascades, which we know on this tour and the waterfall of El Chorro, near the town of Navafría.

is a route that I recommend to do in spring when the waterfalls are more flow and are more beautiful, but can be made at any time of year, as it runs on good roads.

started in the Monastery of Santa Maria del Paular, located just off Rascafría by the road leading to the port of Preserves. Cross the road to meet immediately with the bridge of Atonement, which pass for asphalt track will lead us to picnic recreation area of "THE LOOPS" -15 minutes and just over a mile from the start.

From here, natural pools on our right, the road stops being paved and becomes a wide dirt track where we walk in total comfort. We passed a door with bars on the ground to prevent the passage of cattle and, after a big curve to the right followed by a wide line, descended from a stands (quite ugly, btw), to cross a bridge over the stream boom, just before this one with the waters of the river Lozoya.

After crossing the bridge will see a barrier that prevents the passage of vehicles, but we can move smoothly. We continued and after covering 3.300 km from the start in about 35 minutes, we will see a path leading to the left for which we must follow. When we went through at this point there was a large information panel on the path we're going to do and most of the road was marked with buoys but sadly we can not guarantee that it is still there. Anyway, it's a very busy road and there is always someone who can solve any doubt.

This new road is a bit narrower than we have brought here and, without abandoning it, leads to a new bridge that'll cross the stream of the Boom. So far 5 km and about an hour from the start. After crossing the bridge continue, leading at all times the creek on our right until we reach the falls, where a small wooden gazebo, from which we will have a beautiful view of the waterfalls. 6.5 miles in about an hour and a half.

To see the other waterfall, you have to make a small climb to the left of the first cascade, it is not difficult but should be careful. To return, we follow the same path that we have, but we did on the other, which allows views vary slightly.

To do this, we must return to the second bridge over which we passed, but instead continue straight across it on the road to the left the creek Boom. We must not cross the creek or take any of the deviations that appear to us and, after traveling just over two miles from the bridge, we leave the road that went to the falls, near the area of "THE LOOPS" so from here there is no problem to reach the starting point.

Anyway, for those who want to expand a little tour and see a curious site, we recommend a detour to the youth hostel "THE BATANES", which is just before the bridge of forgiveness. A few hundred meters from the entrance road leading to the hostel, there is a narrow path to our left where we must continue for a few hundred meters, until you reach a meadow with curious wooden seats around a table beneath a large tree near a small source .

The road continues to the right, towards Rascafría and shaded by tall trees. This area is known as "THE FOREST OF FINLAND" and it will find one of the most curious of the mountains, because if you turn off on the first road on the left see a small pond which is a Finnish sauna unfortunately, we have always closed.

This pond is part of a network of canals which supplied the mills were here in which it appears, that made the paper used in the first editions of Don Quixote. "

And after a short break, we finish this route will continue for a few hundred meters along the road through this beautiful forest to reach a gate pass before crossing a bridge over the river Lozoya. A few meters of the road is a bike lane on the return to the monastery of Paular.

Maps / Plans: The route described
may not correspond 100% with the route marked on a map of more intense color, but can serve as a guide for the area.
Anecdotes: The road to the falls is filled with pools where you can cool off if you go in summer with good weather.
