Handball: Olympic Games

The English team of Juan Carlos Pastor has been drawn in the same group as Poland, France, Croatia, China and Brazil, after the draw Olympic handball tournament held today in Beijing.

"I personally would rather not be in the same group as France because there is a strong rivalry. I would have preferred to Denmark, but they have to fight," he said after the draw Miguel Roca, Member of the International Federation Handball (IHF) and former president of the Liga Asobal.

In group B, the six teams vying for one of four positions that give access to the quarter-finals are Germany, Denmark, Russia, South Korea, Iceland and Egypt.

"The two groups are very strong", tried Roca, who pointed to Spain as a power and thought of delusional "to think that going to play an easy group."

Poland as current second in the world, the reigning Olympic champion Croatia and France, two time world champion and always a tough team, make the group of Spain in a minefield, not to mention China, which plays at home, and Brazil .

"Although presumably are better (than Brazil and China) 10-0 start matches but not 0-0," said Roca, who go to Spain in the quarter because he believes he can "aspire to do better."

Tournament Handball will be held between 9 and 24 August. The preliminary competitions will be played at the Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium, while the crosses, semifinals and final will take place at the National Stadium in Beijing.
